A Bluesky report found that many of the leaders in Internet banking are "value-focused specialists" and small, foreign and new players rather than the traditional "high street" banks. ... According to the report, there are 476 intermediate and advanced cyber banks in Europe and only 249 in the US. Germany has the largest number of all types of Internet bank sites, with 533 of the 863 total sites. France and Spain combined have six times as many advanced cyber banks as the UK, even though they have only half the number of Internet users. Nearly all of the Internet bank sites in Holland are advanced cyber banks, 40 percent of which are available in English as well as Dutch as they use the Internet to expand beyond their domestic borders. ... "In the case of Citibank UK, we found there was, for once, enough information given on site to make a buy decision, there's no mystery as to the benefits and nature of the product or services, and no assumption that the user 'just knows' what the bank has to offer," said Suzan Nolan, president of Bluesky International Marketing. "What's more, there are a number of helpful features built into the site, and it is clearly designed and promoted to acquire new customers."
